Abstract

The contribution of Paul Ricoeur to philosophy, hermeneutics and contemporary theology is undoubted. With this author a creative reinterpretation takes place around the art of interpreting a text, of understanding it as a living and polysemic unit, and of evidencing the relationship between vital event and reading. From this, our contribution framed in fundamental theology, seeks to give an account of some notes on Ricoeur’s understanding of the event of revelation. The experience of God that the people of Israel and the apostolic community had is, according to Ricoeur, a moment that can be interpreted, but not in a monolithic way, but deeply polyphonic. The revelation is plural dialogue, this because the revealed God himself is not monotonous but is deployed or revealed in different linguistic ways. This, in short, does not represent a romantic sense of the interpretive process, but is an expression of its criticality and historical location in understanding interpretation as the task of a living, confessional and culturally situated community.
