Los problemas y desafíos actuales de la formación ciudadana

Abstract

This article reflects on the main issues and challenges that training for citizenship faces within contemporary democratic societies, and the role that the training centers for teachers should play in its execution. It applies the critical-hermeneutic method and, within a prospective framework, some pressing issues for the training for citizenship are identified, in the light of the following challenges: deepening the understanding of democracy and citizenship in plural societies; strengthen the commitment of training for citizenship with democracy; redefining schools as public spaces and promoting the study of training for citizenship as a proper discipline in faculties of education. This article contributes to rethink training for citizenship inside initial training for teachers.
