Palabra y Razón is an academic journal that that offers a space of critical reflection and dissemination of original research by authors both nationals and internationals on philosophy, theology and religious sciences. In addition, the journal is interested in contributing to an interdisciplinary between the declared research lines with education, social sciences, and humanities. The person responsible for a dossier proposal will be in charge of the call for papers, collection of articles and search for reviewers. All proposals must be made through the Official Dossier Proposal Form.

Types of accepted manuscrips

The journal has four main sections: Research Article, Book Review or Translation, Contribution, and Dossier. All manuscripts to be submitted for any of these sections must be subject to the Author Guidelines. The details of each section are as follows:

Research Article: It must have a minimum of 8,000 and a maximum of 10,000 words –included in that footnotes and the reference list at the end of the article; Letter size paper with margins in Normal Template; Font type Garamond size 12; 1.5 line spacing and justify text.

Book Review or Translation: A minimum of 3,000 words and a maximum of 6,000 words including footnotes and the reference list at the end of the manuscript; Letter size paper with margins in Normal Template; Font type Garamond size 12; 1.5 line spacing and justify text.

Contribution: The acceptance or rejection of the manuscripts submitted to this section is subject to the exclusive decision of the journal’s Editorial Board without necessarily ruling out an additional double-blind external review. Fundamentally, this section seeks the inclusion of texts in formats other than research articles. Although these may have a different length from that required for a normal article, it is expected that they do not exceed the maximum length of 10,000 words, letter size sheet with margins in Normal Template, Garamond font size 12, 1.5 spacing (space and a half). It also includes, with preference, manuscripts closer to the writing of the essay. However, texts that are coherent with the research lines declared by the journal are also welcome, such as interviews; advances of master's or doctoral theses; texts presented at conferences, seminars or colloquiums; and responses and/or critical comments to some of the manuscripts published in the previous issue. Manuscripts published as contributions are NOT included in the texts subject to the journal's indexing. This is exclusively for research articles.

Dossier: For a particular issue, the Editorial Board may freely call for an open contribution of articles about a single theme that complies with the research lines declared by the journal. Although the length requested for the articles may vary in each call, it can never exceed 10,000 words or contain less than 4,000 words. The journal is open to receive dossier proposals submitted by an external person to the Faculty of Religious and Philosophical Sciences of the Catholic University of Maule. The Editorial Board will be in charge of receiving and evaluating the proposal for either its acceptance or its rejection. Whoever submits the dossier proposal will be responsible for calling and collecting the articles.

Possible final decisions for a manuscript

Acceptance: There is no need to make further corrections or modifications to the manuscript and, therefore, it will be published as the author has originally submitted it. However, this decision is hardly ever made for a submission. For a manuscript to be considered approved for publication, it must obtain at least two positive reviews (that is, two recommendations for approval). A single negative evaluation of one of the reviews is enough to reject the manuscript definitely.

Acceptance with corrections: The author must compulsorily make corrections and modifications to the manuscript according to the comments and suggestions made by either the referees or the Editorial Board. The manuscript must begin a new round of evaluations once the author has delivered a new submission including the required corrections. If either the referees or the Editorial Board are not satisfied with new submission, the manuscript can be finally rejected. Nonetheless, if the author disagrees with some corrections or suggestions made by any of the referees, he or she will be able to write a letter in which disagreements and arguments can be clearly presented. The Editorial Board is the only in charge of delivering a resolution of the case.

WARNING: Every modification to the manuscript made by the author in virtue of the corrections and comments of the referees must include a new submission with the Word Track Changes activated.

Rejection: The evaluation process is ended, and the Editorial Board has decided that the manuscript will not be published. This resolution is fully grounded in the referee reviews. The author cannot appeal to change this final resolution.

Periodicity

The journal is a biannual publication issues will be published in July and December of each year. Its enumeration corresponds to the year, so that each issue is composed of two volumes whose numbering is successive.

At least once a year, the journal calls for a publication in the Research Articles section and its respective deadline. However, for all sections (including Dossier, if appropriate), the journal accepts manuscripts throughout the year that will be published in the upcoming issue after the date of acceptance.

Evaluation process

All received manuscripts will be sent to qualified reviewers under the double-blind arbitration policy that will have a period of two to three months to send the commented results of the evaluations. Therefore, manuscripts should be submitted without explicit or implicit references from the author. It is important that the authors respect this request to avoid any indication of authorship that would invalidate the double-blind arbitration process. For this part, the Director and Associate Editor have the right to include formal modifications to the articles approved for publication.

Manuscripts submitted both for evaluation to other journals and those that do not comply with the format requested by Palabra y Razón will be rejected. The criteria that encourage the evaluation of the manuscript for publication are those of originality and contribution in the research field, conceptual and argumentative rigor, correct use of language, adequate formal presentation, management of original sources, and the current use of the bibliography.
